Guv exhorts students to contribute to the society

NIT awards degrees to 144

 

YUPIA | Dec 18 | Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) B.D. Mishra, in his 4th convocation address here today, exhorted the passing out NIT students to  contribute to the society reciprocating its contributions for their academic achievements. He asked them to prove themselves worthy of their degrees being future assets of the nation.

After 144 students were awarded degrees including 83 BTech, 51 MTech, three PG and seven Ph D, the governor  advised them to set goal in life, work hard to earn knowledge in academic pursuit with top priority besides taking part in extra curriculum activities with self motivation and take up their missions with a motto to work with integrity braving the challenges ahead to succeed.

While giving a copy of fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution with the degrees, he advised them to develop scientific temper, humanism and spirit for inquiry and reform.

Commending faculty members for their achievement at national and international conferences and awarding of patents, he advised them to move forward with time and constantly update their knowledge. Be a coach, friend, philosopher and guide of the students.  Underscoring that NIT should be  a centre for research and inventions, he wished it to facilitate progress of people and nation through their research works.

Earlier, he gave away Tagore Gold Medal to Roshan Thomas for securing overall highest CGPA in humanities in B Tech and  JC Bose Gold Medals to Avinash Nair and Pothabathula Sai Kiran for best hardware project, titled ‘Design and implementation of ELC for micro hydro power plants’ for 2017.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, in his address, exhorted the students to use  their degree and knowledge for the welfare of society. The degree can be useful only when such achievements are put to use for welfare of mankind, he reasoned.

Arunachal has achieved the distinction of best performing state in education sector as awarded by India Today group, he also, adding under CM’s Adhunik Shiksa Yojana, smart classroom and model schools are being introduced.

Even after establishment since seven years ago, the NIT here could not shift to its permanent site at Jote, he said, adding the GoAP is now taking steps in this matter as work has started for Jote-Poma road. He also assured that mobile and internet connectivity in permanent site will be made functional by roping in BSNL and private players. He expressed happiness that the institute has finally got its permanent director.

Arunachal has vast natural resources and need good policies to convert these resources to capital. In this direction, the CM said a policy conclave was held recently and proposed policies would be  implemented. The Govt believing in ‘Team Arunachal’ spirit is willing to take on board all, he said.

North East today is becoming an attractive destination for , he said that the success of recently held NE Development Summit held in Imphal is a pointer to that direction. He said the GoAP will also soon organize an investor summit in the state to attract investors.

Applauding hardwork of the students and the faculty, NIT Board of Governors chairman Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe hoped that the NIT with support from all quarters will come up at par with other best technical institutes of the country

Director Prof Rajiv Kumar Garg informed that NIT’s present strength is 882, including  696 B. Tech, 117 PG and 69 Ph. D students spread in  seven engineering & technology disciplines besides research programmes in masters and PhD. The faculty members are credited with 88 research publications in reputed international journals,  one in national Journal, 31 in international and 14 research papers in national conferences;  contributed 2 book chapters; besides four of their  patents granted and four in process since last convocation.
